Hello, LUGgers!

Welcome back from break! This Tuesday, we'll have our traditional
first-week-of-the-semester planning meeting, where we'll introduce
ourselves and plan out what technical topics we're going to discuss.
We'll also be discussing:

* What to do at FOSS Fair
* When to have hack days
* What to do with our servers (we have a new one!)
* Where to eat dinner

When: Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 7:00 PM
Where: Engineering Building II, room 3001

3001 is on the bridge that connects the two halves of EB II - find a
stairwell, go all the way up to the 3rd floor, and then walk towards
the center.

See you at the meeting!

Thanks,
Matthew Frazier

Good news. The Triangle DevOps meetup will also be meeting in a
different room at WebAssign tonight. Their sponsor, TekSystems, will
provide pizza for everyone from 6:45pm along with their pitch.

See you there.

Hello LUG people, We'll be having this week's meeting at the Taco Bell
on 3821 Western Boulevard at 7:00pm. It may well be the most stimulating
meal we have all semester so please remember your formal attire and bring
a bit extra for the valet.

Do they require a tuxedo, or can I get by with a suit coat?

Subject: FOSS Fair 2015 Registration Open!
Message-ID: <CAMjyYxpVRSp-=9srS16ZuGiCu3LHJkY3ZhvMKj-tf0+GLJRCrw@mail.gmail.[redacted]>

Hello, campus FOSS community!

Registration is now open for this year's Free and Open Source Software
Fair! FOSS Fair is an unconference-style event, hosted at NC State
University, about anything related to free and open source software.
The schedule is completely participant-driven -- rather than planning
everything in advance, people just bring their ideas for sessions to
the Fair, and we tape them to the wall to make a schedule!

When: Saturday, February 7, 2015
Where: Engineering Building II
Web: http://go.ncsu.edu/fossfair2015
Cost: Free!

8:30 AM: Coffee and bagels (sponsored by Red Hat)
9:00 AM: Opening session and talk proposals
10:00 AM: Sessions begin!
12:00 PM: Lunch (sponsored by Red Hat)
1:00 PM: More sessions!
5:00 PM: Fair ends

Registration is strongly encouraged -- besides getting a cool FOSS
Fair name badge, it also helps us know how many people to expect for
lunch. After registering, you can help prepare for the Fair by:

* Proposing sessions! All sessions at FOSS Fair are given by ordinary
attendees -- if you have something you want to talk about, no need to
be an expert, just add it to the Web site! Sessions can also be
discussions, workshops, sprints, or anything else you can think of.
(And if you don't think your session needs a full hour, we'll have
half-hour sessions this Fair.)

* Suggesting sessions! If there's something you'd like to know more
about, you can add it to the "Suggestions" list on the Web site!
Someone else might see it and offer to have a session about it.

* Promoting the Fair! If you know any people or mailing lists who
would be interested in FOSS Fair, feel free to pass along this email.

* Volunteering to help! If you'd like to be trained as a Fair staff
member to keep sessions running smoothly and help participants resolve
any issues that crop up, contact the LUG Steering Committee at
linux-users-group@ncsu.[redacted] -- we haven't picked a time for staff
training yet, so let us know what works best for you.

Last year's FOSS Fair was a blast, and we're hoping this one will be
even better. We hope to see you there!

Thanks,
Matthew Frazier

Hi typeof(LUG) people, We'll be having a talk on security this week, so
get your tin foil ready and your usb encryptors ready. We have a room for
this semester now so we'll be sending these emails out a lot earlier from
now on (sorry bout that folks). Thanks,

Hello, everyone!

First, I'd like to remind everyone that FOSS Fair registration is
still open, but that it closes on Friday at 12:00 PM if you want lunch
or a name badge. You can view more info and sign up at
http://go.ncsu.edu/fossfair2015.

In addition, we've set a date and time for staff training. FOSS Fair
staff are responsible for:

* Setting up A/V equipment for speakers
* Keeping sessions on time
* Tracking changes to the schedule
* Answering participants' questions
* Dealing with Code of Conduct violations or any other problems

If you want to serve as a staff member, you need to attend staff
training next Tuesday.

When: Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at 7:00 PM
Where: Engineering Building II room 1227

The training will cover:

* FOSS Fair scheduling procedures
* Code of Conduct and incident handling procedures
* Using the A/V equipment (with demos from a ClassTech staffer)
* Staff communication (via an SMS group)

If you just want to help with setup or cleanup, you don't need to
attend the training - just show up to the Fair on Saturday, February 7
(at 7:30 AM for setup, and at the normal time of 8:30 AM for everyone
else).

Thanks,
